Acid / Alkaline Balance

The standard American diet (SAD) includes eating meals which are high in meat, dairy, soda, processed foods, poor quality fats, sugars, chemical additives, sodium, and is generally very low in nutrients; this is due to a lack of eating fresh fruits and vegetables which are the most nutrient dense foods available.  When we consume the SAD diet we set ourselves up for disease by creating an ideal low-oxygen, acidic environment for cancer to grow.

Alkaline and Acid Ash -  pH refers to “potential of hydrogen” and is a measurement of whether your body is in an acidic, balanced or alkaline state.  The pH scale runs from 1-14, with 7 being in the middle (or neutral).  Anything lower than 7 would be within the acidic range, anything above 7 is within the alkaline range.  People with a balanced pH are able to resist sickness and disease because their body is naturally able to fight it off.  While people who are overly acidic or overly alkaline are more prone to sickness and diseases.

When you ingest foods and liquids, the end product after digestion and assimilation of nutrients will result in an acid or alkaline-forming effect – these end products are often referred to as an acid-ash or alkaline-ash. All foods and beverages can then be considered either alkaline or acidic based on the ash that is created after digestion.

Acidic foods will add hydrogen molecules to the body therefore making your boy more acidic, alkaline foods remove hydrogen molecules thus making your body more alkaline.  Processed foods, meat, sugar, grains, dairy, soda, coffee, and alcoholic beverages are all acidic.  Diets which are based on these foods will cause your body to lose precious minerals from your skeletal system in an attempt to re-balance the pH.  The standard American diet is highly acidic and this is why osteoporosis rates are so common in the US.

Acidic cells create an acidic body, and an acidic body is a precursor for disease. Some signs of excess acidity will include fatigue with general aches and pains. Acidosis is especially problematic because it interferes with normal cell function. An example of this is in the production of white blood cells which are essential for a strong immune system. Poor quality white blood cells are produced in acidic environments, making it easy for infections and diseases to take hold.

foodUsing the Acid/ Alkaline Food Chart- Most of the foods that people eat today fall in the acid-forming category,  a diet composed primarily of these acid-forming foods inhibits nerve function, damages cells, and creates a low-oxygen environment where cancer can thrive.

The quickest way to change your pH score would be to stop your consumption of the standard American diet and start eating a diet rich in fresh organic fruits and vegetables, and then begin juicing a variety of raw leafy greens such as kale, chard, spinach, watercress, wheatgrass, along with other vegetables.  In addition to juicing you can drink plenty of spring water with fresh squeezed lemon juice.

Make it your goal to eat 80% alkaline foods, with only 20% acidic.    Use the food chart below to help guide your choices.

pH testing strips for saliva-  you can test your pH level using Ph Test Strips that are made for saliva, this can be purchased from health food stores or online, and can be used to give you a measure of what is going on inside of your body. The proper strip to purchase is a narrow or short range strip, which will measure from 5.0 to 9.5 or so.

Your goal is to reach 7.2 – 7.4.

To test:  The first test of the day is upon waking before eating or drinking anything, otherwise wait at least two hours after eating or drinking to ensure that the food that you consumed does not alter test results.  Cleanse the mouth by filling it with saliva and then swallowing or spitting. Fill the mouth again with saliva and place the test strip on the tongue for 10 seconds. The strip will change colors based on the results.  Use the insert from the package to determine pH. Test 4 times per day to get a clear picture of what is going on inside of your body.  You will find that your pH will fluctuate throughout the day.  Your goal is to register slightly more alkaline than acidic, around 7.2 to 7.4.

If you have cancer -Those with cancer are generally registering around a 5.5 or lower, and you may not be registering at all  when you are testing depending on the calibration of the strip and your level of acidity.   It takes time to raise the pH from an acidic state to an alkaline range, sometimes taking weeks to even begin to register on the tape and then up to 12 weeks before you can reach the goal of 7.2- 7.4.    At this level oxygen levels are plentiful and cancer cells become inactive, and the cancer begins to die.  You must then hold the pH at this level until the cancer is completely gone.  Also please be aware that you cannot return to your old habits after having cancer.  Make changes to your diet and lifestyle and plan on sticking with them for the long term. Over-alkalizing-  Please don’t go overboard and over-alkalize your body  either.  Just as an overly acidic body is harmful to health, over-alkalizing would be as well.  Just work on reaching your goal of 7.4 and then try to maintain that level.  Additionally, those with certain cancers such as leukemia, myeloma, and lymphoma may do better with diets that are more balanced than overly-alkalizing.  Read more about this with the work of Dr Nicholas Gonzalez.

Soda/coffee -  soda has a very low pH, with nothing scoring above a 3 on the pH scale. They contain phosphoric acid, which is not only bad for your teeth, but also terrible for bone health, promoting a chronic deterioration of the skeletal system.  Try drinking carbonated water with fresh lemon or a splash of  juice to help you break this habit.  Additionally coffee is another acidic beverage, try limiting yourself to only 1 cup or switch to drinking Green Tea  instead.

Water: I mentioned drinking spring water above, here is a link to help you locate a spring near you.  Another option is purchasing a reverse osmosis water system which will remove fluoride, chlorine, chromium 6, arsenic, lead, and other chemicals and metals which are found in municipal water supplies. A simple carbon filtration will remove chlorine only so don’t assume that any filter will do. Installing an appropriate  water filter will make sure that you are getting the purest drinking water possible.  RO machines and water distillers will remove toxins from the water but they also remove the essential minerals like calcium, magnesium, potassium and sodium, making the water more acidic.  This means that in order for your body to balance and absorb this water properly, it will draw these minerals from whatever source is available which may be your body, therefore, adding minerals back  into this water is essential. Many RO machines now have a finishing filter that will add the minerals back into the water, such as this one.   Regular maintenance is required on this type of filtration system, with the filters needing to be changed regularly.  If you are not a mechanically inclined individual, many companies offer to rent similar systems for a monthly fee and then they come in and do all of the maintenance for you.  Check your business pages for more information.

Other ways to make alkaline water are to slice up a organic lemon along with a tsp of Himalayan Sea Salt to one gallon of water, or by adding Minerals Drops into filtered water and storing this in the refrigerator.

Alkaline water can be made by adding 1/2 tsp of baking soda to an 8 ounce glass of water.  This should be taken away from mealtimes as it will disrupt digestion, or at bedtime when you will not have to worry about food intake, and limit to 3 tsp of sodium bicarbonate per day.

Another highly alkaline beverage can be made with 2 cups of filtered water, the juice of one lemon, 1 tsp of baking soda and stevia to taste.  Add all ingredients except for the baking soda into a large container and stir.  Add the baking soda at the end, this may foam up, but continue to gently stir until it settles down.  Once again, limit the sodium bicarbonate to only 3 tsp per day and only take this on an empty stomach as it will impede food digestion.

There is no doubt about it that Americans must include way more whole foods from nature that is listed on the far left hand side of the Acid/Alkaline Balance chart found at the Cancer Compass site. But I would like to add the mineral Magnesium is frightfully deficient in the Standard American Diet . They do not eat enough seaweeds to get their iodine. Not enough sun exposure for the hormone 3D. Our oxygen intake is getting much less. And the American public in general has trust and a love affair with pharmaceutical drug industry for long term chronic use .   2. Great information.. About PH levels.. Only true if organic.. Most commercial foods are acidic because they grown on superphosphate… Such as carrots… Percy Weston of Australia did some very good research into this field. If one chooses to juice fruit and vegetable such as carrot and apple, then better get organic and a slow crushing juicer. Many people go to shops for juice that is high speed and then wait many minutes before drinking. By such time the juice is most likely acidic and they be better off getting a fresh salad.. :) Alkalise and Shine.
