Lindsey Martin heals stage 3 colon cancer with diet, supplements and cannabis oil
I first chatted with Lindsey in an alternative health forum back in November of 2012. She shared with me how she had used cannabis oil to successfully cure herself from stage 3 colon cancer. Following that she had a major health set-back in 2013 and was mistakenly told that the cancer had returned and she was stage 4. She later found out that she was actually suffering from a severe infection resulting from a botched surgical procedure. This is her testimonial.
My name is Lindsey and I live in Cape Town, South Africa. On the 12th August 2011, my life changed forever. I had been to the doctor three times complaining about pain in my lower abdomen. He did the usual urine and blood tests and announced that I had a bladder infection. However after having weeks of antibiotics I was sicker than ever. One morning I awoke with the most excruciating pain that I had ever experienced. It was so bad that I could barely walk. Deep inside I knew something was terribly wrong.
My husband Brett took me to another doctor who remarked “yes, I can definitely feel something in there, you need to go in for an ultrasound.” This test confirmed a ovarian cyst which was about 9cm in diameter which had twisted on itself and was causing chaos in my abdomen. The gynecologist assured me that everything would be okay and I had surgery an hour later to remove the rogue ovary. Waking up from that operation and hearing how the surgery had gone confirmed my worst fears. Apparently while in the process of removing my ovary, they noticed that something was wrong with my colon but they closed me up anyway. What no one knew was that my colon and bladder had been punctured during the operation. What follows is just too horrible to talk about, but slowly my body was becoming septic….
August 25, 2011- I went in for a second surgery to repair my bladder and colon and to have a temporary fitting of a colostomy bag. The operation was difficult because the infection had to be cleared, however everyone was surprised by my quick recovery and doctors were happy with my progress. One final CT scan made sure that I didn’t have any remaining infection and I was sent home.
On September 7, 2011, I had a third operation to remove the tumor from my colon, but it was discovered that it had spread to my nodes and there was a spot on my liver. The course of action was 6 months of chemotherapy, once a week for 30 weeks.
My chemo started on 14th October 2011. Some people react okay to chemotherapy, but most experience terrible side effects as it builds up in your body. I honestly can say that it sucked the life out of me…I could feel it slipping away. I found myself in limbo – trying to survive to the next week, to be strong enough for the chemo and the bouts of nausea and general sickness as it saps your energy and leaves you feeling morbidly depressed. Time was a blur, I could barely work, I spent days and nights on the couch, in a daze, my nausea was so bad. During this time some friends brought me some marijuana and I smoked it. It made things so much better for me. Not only could I enjoy food again but I slept better and had a general sense of well being. I told my doctor about it and he said to take in as much as I can. He also said that he had done some research outside of his work and believes in its healing properties but was not in a position to give it to patients, or even to recommend it.
Half way through my chemo on February 3, 2012, I went in for my CT scan. My spirits were high as I had been eating an organic, vegetarian diet which consisted of berry smoothies, brown rice, greens and salads. I’d also been taking supplements every day such as Vitamin C, green powder, hemp powder, spirulina, and milk thistle. I had every reason to believe that I was in the clear and healthy and that all I had to do was to convince them to reverse my colostomy surgery. But it didn’t work out that way. In the doctors words, “there are now 4 spots on your liver, one on your kidney and one on your gall bladder, but let’s wait until we see the final report and I meet with the specialists to discuss.” A week later I went back for the official report. The spot in my gall bladder was actually a 2.8cm stone, the “spots” on my liver turned out to be lesions, and I had a cyst on the kidney. Nothing more to say. The chemo was causing more harm than good.
That day I made a life-changing decision, I told the oncologist I wanted to stop the chemo and the remainder of my “treatment” was to be an opportunity for me to heal myself holistically. She wasn’t happy but gave me an appointment for the 23rd May, 2012. She said they would still follow me and treat me even if I didn’t take the chemo. I think that she probably believed I would be dead by the 23rd of May anyways
Around this same time, I read information about cannabis oil curing cancer. I did all the research I could and only found positive things about the plant. The testimonials of people who have been cured were incredible. I can’t mention names, but I contacted one of the groups that are fighting to legalize cannabis, asking if anyone knew where I could get my hands on some oil since I already knew about the benefits of smoking it while on chemo. I also managed to connect with some people who are taking the legal issue before parliament. These people knew of some others who were growing the herb to heal people with cancer. I paid R7200.00 for the 6 syringes needed to kill the cancer. (Depending on the exchange rate, R7200 South African Rands = $900-1000 US Dollars.)
Cannabis is very strong and the idea is to build up the daily dose over time. One dose is a drop on your finger about the size of “half a grain of rice”. The syringe is the easiest way to store and dispense one drop of oil at a time. I took all 6 syringes, which totaled 18 grams, within 46 days….most people take this much over 90 days. There are loads of sites about using cannabis for cancer, but the best is http://phoenixtears.ca/
On March 28, 2012, I arrived at the hospital to see my oncologist and the surgeons to ask for them to schedule my reverse colostomy operation. I underwent a whole range of tests and scans and met later in the afternoon with four doctors. To my great relief there was no sign of any cancer in my body!!
I’m not going to go into the politics around the medical profession and their macabre attitude towards anything related to natural healing. I’m sure it’s all just ignorance down on the ground floor while the pharmaceutical companies cash in on the rising cancer industry. Instead I will share what I have realized through this experience, and that is that only I am responsible for my health and it’s up to me to heal my body…no doctor can do that. And no one knows what’s best for me…but me!
If this story encourages someone in a similar situation to do the same, then my reason for writing this has been achieved! I’ve spent months researching every aspect of cancer and the holistic healing modalities to cure or at least put up a bigger fight, which is better than what chemo can do for you. If this story helps others to make the move, then none of my experience will be for nothing.
Lastly, I have to say that my cancer diagnosis what a true blessing …it facilitated a change within me on every level – emotionally, physically, mentally and spiritually, it formed an unbreakable bond of love and support with my husband. I’ve become brave and confident in my own power to heal myself…and this is truly the biggest blessing…and I really want to help inspire others to do the same…
PS: And the date of my reversal operation booked by the surgeon is 7th September 2012 (exactly a year to the day I was diagnosed – coincidence?)!

An update from Lindsey posted 8/7/13
My story didn’t end with the successful reversal operation that I was expecting to have in September of 2012. After being cleared of cancer and ready for the reversal surgery, they opened me up and said they saw cancer in my pelvis that didn’t show up on my MRI, and then they closed me right back up again and diagnosed me with Stage 4 cancer. The recommended treatment was 5 weeks radiation, surgery, followed by 30 weeks of chemo. I stood a 40% chance of survival. I hate to be a statistic, so I turned down further treatment. They made me sign a form saying that I won’t take the treatment and then promptly sent me home with a bottle of morphine and an appointment with Hospice.
By January of 2013, I started feeling sick and I honestly almost accepted that I was on my way out. I was bleeding, I had pain. But somehow, deep inside me, I didn’t trust that what I had was cancer. It didn’t feel like cancer pain, it felt worse! By spring I was well on my way to being a morphine addict. I was in pain, I felt like I was dying. A little morphine addiction was going to be the least of my worries. All this time I am faithfully taking cannabis oil and believing it was helping me.
May, June and July all passed by like a blur. I had fevers, pain, nausea, bleeding and vomiting. I looked like a cancer patient. I couldn’t eat, I couldn’t enjoy anything and felt like I was dying. My father-in-law came from the Azores to meet me, just in case I never made it out. I was very sick during his visit and my urine consisted of chunks of blood. In desperation, he insisted we go to Constantiaberg Medi-clinic, where in just a few short hours I learned that I didn’t have cancer at all, but was suffering from a hole in my pelvis from a previous operation which turned into a fistula! I won’t go into the details of what a fistula involves but the symptoms are similar to cancer related pain, and the risk of septicemia is very high. I would have died had it not been for the surgeons who operated on me. The operation was risky, it might have not worked, but it did. Now I am back on the cannabis oil and feeling fabulous! I have my life back. No more pain, nausea or bleeding. life is beautiful! Everyone and everything is amazing, don’t forget that whilst you get the lost in the nonsense…
Update posted on 5/28/14– Lindsey continued to do very well for almost a year. She was cancer free and living life to its fullest, but then she developed a second severe infection from the same fistula mentioned above. Having another surgery was no longer an option and I am sad to report that she passed away on 5/28/14 from severe sepsis.
Notes about Cannabis oil:
Beware of cannabis oil scammers- recently, websites such as this and other Facebook alternative health groups have been inundated with people claiming to be able to provide oil to people. Most of the people advertising in this fashion are making false claims and selling ineffective oil that will do nothing to cure cancer. This is only a way to make money off of those in a desperate situation. Caution should be used at all times when looking for reputable suppliers of cannabis oil. This is why Rick Simpson’s website instructs people to buy the seeds or the cannabis and make your own oil carefully following the instructions that he has posted. There are some vendors of seeds at the bottom of the post.
How to make your own oil- If you can obtain the cannabis buds yourself, you will need about 1 pound which will yield about 55-60 grams of oil, which is what Lindsey used. The street value of high quality cannabis runs about $80-120 per ounce, so it will cost you close to $1,000 to make the oil at home. You will find video’s below to help you or visit Rick Simpson’s website for instructions on making the oil yourself.
Using grain alcohol instead of the isopropyl alcohol that Rick Simpson uses- although it is said that the isopropyl alcohol or the Naptha solvent that Rick recommends burns off during the heating stage, there are some who have concerns about using harmful solvents. The woman in the video below uses a particular brand of grain alcohol called Everclear which is 190 proof and could be used as a substitution. You must still use caution at all times when heating this mixture. Keep in mind that using a lesser proof grain alcohol may make a weaker oil.
How to make smaller amounts of cannabis oil with one ounce of medical marijuana. This recipe uses 190 proof grain alcohol in place of the isopropyl alcohol or Naptha that Rick Simpson advocates. This recipe will make approximately 2-4 grams of cannabis oil depending upon the resin content of the raw materials being used.
Medical marijuana-The benefits of medical marijuana for cancer patients are clear when it comes to increased appetite, reduction of pain, wasting, vomiting and nausea, as well as depression. Although its anticarcinogenic effects are not quite as clear, ongoing research further points to the possibility that medical marijuana may actually be what many claim it is – a truly miraculous drug.
Many studies have been conducted that have focused on the possibility that cannabinoids have anticarcinogenic effects. A 2007 study by the Institute of Toxicology and Pharmacology in Rostock, Germany focused on human cervical cancer (HeLa) cells. The cells were treated with specific cannabioids and THC. Even at low concentrations, “MA and THC led to a decrease in invasion of 61.5% and 68.1% respectively.”
Over twenty major studies in the past nine years have shown that cannabinoids (the chemicals in cannabis) actually fight cancer cells. In fact, it has been shown that cannabinoids arrest cancer growths of many different forms of cancer, including brain, melanoma and breast cancer. There is even growing evidence that cannabinoids cause direct anti-tumor activity.
Although freedom from nausea and vomiting are two of the most noticed benefits of medical marijuana use, many have reported a reduction in the severity of wasting away. As well, they have noticed a lessening in depression and other “side effects” brought on by the disease, including an increase in appetite. All of these things together have helped many cancer patients live a better, happier, more comfortable life.
Understanding medical marijuana laws in your state– Medical cannabis, or medical marijuana, is currently illegal in many states, due to an archaic prohibition that was instituted in 1937. While all forms of marijuana are still illegal based on federal laws, a few courageous states have started implementing medical marijuana laws, but most are complex and hard to understand which puts patients at risk. Use this resource to help guide you about what is allowed in your state as well as become and advocate for the use of medical marijuana. http://medicalmarijuana.com/
